Anyone with oily skin can list reasons why they don’t like their skin type – their face gets shiny after a few hours in the morning; foundation slips off easily; their makeup gets patchy after a while… the list goes on.
If you’re one of them, you’ve probably tried getting rid of the oil through various means, including blotting and turning to skincare products. But what you’re doing could actually make it worse. Scroll the gallery to find out what you’ve been doing wrong.
You scrub every day
You might think that scrubbing your face everyday helps to get rid of excess oil and sebum but in truth, it could actually make it worse. Exfoliating your skin almost everyday can cause skin to dry out and lose its moisture — causing oily skin to develop further.
You use a lot of hairstyling products
The tiny particles in aerosol hair products can easily clog your skin up, causing oily skin problems to worsen.
You touch your face after styling your hair
This is just one of the many ways that hair products can get on your skin.
You pick on pimples and scabs on your face
Picking on pimples and scabs does nothing but introduce even more bacteria into your pores and skin. Plus, it’ll cause skin to scar too.
You don’t moisturise enough
If you work in an office, chances are, your skin is probably suffering from the dry air-conditioning air. Make it a point to mist your skin throughout the day to get it moist and happy.
