If you were old enough to watch TV dramas in early 2000s, you’d probably have watched Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden. In fact, the drama, which was based on a Japanese comic, was so iconic that it catapulted the four lead actors – all of whom made their showbiz debut through the drama – to massive fame. Their popularity was such a force to be reckoned with that they were eventually signed on as a boyband, bearing the same name as their clique did in the drama: F4.

F4, comprising Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Vanness Wu and Ken Chu, enjoyed popularity for a long time, even long after season two of the drama had aired. Up till now, they are still household names and continued to be known as F4 despite having to change their group name 11 years ago to JVKV (based on their initials) due to copyright issues.

Likewise, Meteor Garden continues to be one of the most iconic dramas of all time, and its popularity lead to the production of the Japanese version, Hana Yori Dango (which is a closer adaptation of the comic) and Korean version, Boys Over Flowers, starring Lee Minho and Kim Hyun Joong.

Now, Netflix has jumped on the bandwagon by creating a remake of the popular Taiwanese drama, Meteor Garden 2018. Producer Angie Chai, who was behind the original 2001 drama, will be teaming up with renowned producer Adam Tsuei for the remake. Joining them as cast members are Dylan Wang (Dao Ming Si), Darren Chen (Hua Ze Lei), Connor Leong (Mei Zuo) and Caesar Wu (Xi Men).

Actress Shen Yue plays Dong Shan Cai, and interestingly, Xiao S or Dee Hsu, will play Daoming Si’s elder sister. If you recall, her real-life sister, Da S or Barbie Hsu, played Shan Cai in the 2001 production.

Harlem Yu, who sang the soundtrack of the original drama “Qing Fei De Yi” and also made an appearance on the last episode of the past production, will also be making a special appearance, along with singer Amber Kuo!

The trailer is enough to entice us to watch, and it’s not just because the new F4 are so good-looking!
