Running Man fans might have heard the devastating news, but come February, the popular Korean variety show will be no more.
This is why Lee Kwangsoo’s recent award acceptance speech is more bittersweet than ever. The actor picked up the Top Excellence Award at the SBS Entertainment Awards last weekend. He was recognised for his role and efforts in Running Man.
The actor shed tears as people rushed on stage to present him with congratulatory flower bouquets. The 31-year-old, who has been a regular member of the variety show for seven years since the show first started, choked up the moment he delivered his speech. The Running Man members in the audience were also seen fighting back tears as he thanked them one by one.
He said, “Thank you to everyone who has loved and protected Running Man. To Sukjin hyung who taught me about variety skills and life, Jaesuk hyung who made me what I am today, my mental guide Jungkook hyung, Haha hyung whom I really love and is like family, Jihyo noona who is like my real elder sister, Gary hyung, Joongki and Lizzy. I really love you, and I was happy.”
“We will finish the programme well.”
The programme got into a controversy after it sacked Kim Jongkook and Song Jihyo from the show with little or no prior notice. After the broadcasting channel and producers were heavily criticised for their decisions and actions, they announced that the show will be cancelled.
