Selena Gomez’s Best Friend Donated A Kidney To Her And We’re Crying

Friends for life, for sure.

Friendship is all about sacrifices and give-and-take. For Francia Raisa, Selena Gomez’s best friend, friendship is about making sure the people around you are healthy, even if it means giving up a part of yourself. Recently, the actress did just that by donating a kidney to Selena, who is suffering from Lupus.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that attacks the body’s normal tissues. It can affect the joints, skin, blood vessels and organs such as kidneys, heart, lungs, and brain.

Selena has been battling Lupus since 2015. Last year, she had to cancel the last legs of her Revival World Tour to seek treatment for depression and anxiety, both of which were triggered by her disease.

She returned with new music this year, releasing “Bad Liar” in May, and “Fetish” in July.

However, she has been relatively quiet despite all this, and last night she revealed why on Instagram.

She wrote, “I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.”

She added, “I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”

Francia and Selena had met when they attended a benefit event at a hospital 10 years ago. Prior to her debut as a singer, Selena was part of the Disney family, while Francia acted in ABC Family’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager from 2008 to 2013. Francia told Latina in 2013, “Six years ago Disney and ABC Family had the stars of their shows go to the Children’s Hospital. Selena and I were in the same group and we just clicked.”

After Selena posted the story on Instagram, her fans left positive comments on Francia’s Instagram page, thanking her for helping Selena. A few hours later, Francia reposted Selena’s photo of them lying side by side on hospital beds and wrote, “I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process. This was part of our story, and we will share it soon, but what is important now is that this is not the only story.”

She added, “Love you sis, so glad we’re on this journey together.”

Both Selena and Francia included in their posts a link to the Lupus Research Alliance website.
