We woke up today to news that Ed Sheeran would be making a guest appearance on Game of Thrones. We’re not talking about him singing the soundtrack, but he’ll be legit acting. It’s not clear what his role will be, but Ed himself pretty much confirmed the news when he quoted Vanity Fair’s tweet and said, “Guess the cat’s out the bag…”

According to the Vanity Fair article, he was invited as a surprise to Maisie Williams, who is a big fan of Ed’s.
In Singapore, we have our own singer-turned-actor, and he’s none other than Nathan Hartono. But unlike Ed, it won’t be just a cameo. Rather, he landed a lead role in a Singapore-Taiwan movie about car-racing. (Anyone else reminded of Jay Chou’s Initial D?)
While this is his first lead role, it’s definitely not his foray into acting. Nathan’s already done a musical and an HBO Asia TV series.
The singer-to-actor crossover is not a new trend. It started way before the advent of smartphones, and some singers have seriously good acting chops, such that they’re recognised as actors in their own rights. Here are eight other singer-turned-actors to make your White Day.
