It takes a lot of balls to become an entrepreneur. It’s scary, but you know that nothing is more rewarding than seeing your vision come to fruition. So how do you go about setting the plans in motion, and more importantly, what are some things that people don’t tell you about being an entrepreneur? We asked this year’s CLEO Change Makers who have been there and done that to give budding entrepreneurs some advice. Here’s what we learnt.
“The most important thing to do is set a goal that you believe in. It’s also really important that you find a good mentor – otherwise, you’ll be going in blind and making mistakes that could have been avoided.”
“It’s actually possible to start a business with no money – especially if it’s an online business. If you can’t figure out how to start a business with no money, then don’t start a business. Never think that you can’t do anything just because you lack the resources. Besides that, the two most important skills you need to have as a business owner are knowing how to save money and how to get the most value out of your dollar.”
“I’d say go for it because you’ll never know how it’ll turn out unless you try. But that said, don’t just blindly leap into entrepreneurship. It has to be a calculated move, to some extent.”
“You need to be very cautious when it comes to managing the funds. Be financially aware, and look at the money aspect right from the very beginning.”
“Every day is different, so you need to be able to keep your mind in the game and constantly be in the zone. If things are easy, you probably aren’t doing enough to grow the business. Also, companies are usually known for their people, so choose the right people and give them the right vision.”
