The office can be like a battlefield. Success (i.e. pay raise and promotion) depends on your strategy. And while it’s easy to say that you don’t want to get involved in office politics, sometimes you inadvertently find yourself in the centre of it no thanks to your colleagues.
While you might be chummy during lunch and even go out for drinks after work, there’s no guarantee that your colleagues aren’t going to stab you in the back, especially where credit (hence performance bonus) is concerned.
