Nobody is born a beauty guru – including me. It was not until a few years ago did I realise that a skincare regime entailed more than just washing your face with water.

Like most beginners, I initially struggled to draw winged eyeliner and was totally clueless about highlighting and contouring. In fact, I was surprised to find out that there was a different kind of highlighter than the neon pens we use to highlight important texts in our textbooks (oops).

Along the way, I’ve learnt and picked up a few tips and so here are three beauty hacks that have worked for me.

  1. You can’t go wrong with proper cleansing
Cleansing is an extremely important step, especially for people who use makeup. Based on my experience, I’ve come to realise that clogged pores are not really caused by the amount of makeup that you slather on your face, but how well you get rid of the grime on your face before hitting the sack every night. So, invest in a good cleanser and makeup remover to ensure that you go to bed with clean skin.

  2. Aloe vera gel is the most underrated beauty secret
This is one amazing ingredient that has been widely raved for its soothing and healing properties and I attest to its potency. I first discovered its wonders a few months ago after using it on my chin, which was clogged and scarred due to hormonal acne. I religiously slathered on the aloe vera gel and surprisingly, those scars faded in no time. Even the whitening products that I used to apply didn’t produce such quick results.

  3. Wear a lipstick
I’m sure we all have days when we just don’t want to put on makeup but still want to look good and presentable. That’s when we will need a lipstick. A bold lip colour instantly brightens up our look and makes us look dressed up even though we might not be. So go ahead and start stocking up on those bright lip colours. Anyway, we can never have enough lipsticks, right?

My favourite Za product is… the Eye & Lip Makeup Remover because it gets rid of my makeup thoroughly without leaving a greasy feeling. It also leaves my skin clean and supple.
