If you use Instagram regularly, you’ve probably seen at least five photos of people doing yoga in your life. Everyone and their neighbour seem to be doing the exercise, and there’s a good reason why: yoga has physical and mental benefits; it calms your mind, gives your body a good stretch and can even sculpt and tone your body.
Haven’t tried yoga yet and want to give it a go? The good news is, to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21, a few yoga studios in Singapore are offering free classes! All you gotta do is come with your own mat. Scroll through the gallery to find out more.
Yoga Under the Stars, Jal Yoga x Gillman Barracks
Weekdays don’t have to be dull. Instead of heading straight home after work, schedule a soulful session for yoga under the stars. Jal Yoga is holding a free-for-all yoga class in the evening at Gillman Barracks. Imagine practising yoga with the cool evening breeze under a sky full of sparkling stars. Open to all levels, this bring-your-own-mat event will involve a mix of hatha and vinyasa yoga. We can’t think of a better way to jazz up a weekday evening.
Yoga Movement x The Pilot Project
To celebrate International Yoga Day, Yoga Movement will be present at The Pilot Project’s pop-up at Scape to offer a free 60-minute session open to all. The Pilot Project features up-and-coming local brands founded by people below the age of 35. Enjoy some retail therapy by supporting the local entrepreneurial scene, and chill out to live acoustic music after your sweat sesh. All participants get to walk away with a pass to one free yoga session at Yoga Movement. Sounds like a great way to wrap up the weekend.
Happy Yoga, Art of Living Foundation and Singapore Botanic Gardens
Yoga is a great way to relax and unwind. According to Adam Fazlur, yoga instructor from the Art of Living Foundation, simply 90 seconds of deep breathing can reduce cortisol levels (stress hormones) and boost endorphins (happy hormones). Start your Sunday morning on a high with a Happy Yoga session amidst the greenery of Singapore Botanic Gardens. This class is suited for all ages so get your friends and family to join in for some quality bonding time.
Outdoor Yoga Event, Platinum Yoga
Start your Sunday morning the right way by joining Platinum Yoga’s outdoor yoga class at Suntec City. You will get the opportunity to meet various experienced yoga instructors from Platinum Yoga who will be teaching different parts of the class. Get a taste of chakra yoga and even inversions during the 1.5-hour session. In case of wet weather, the event will take place at Platinum Yoga’s Suntec City studio. And if you don’t want to lug your mat around, you can rent one on the spot at $2.
Calm Amidst the Chaos, Pure Yoga
This yoga event is targeted at all the busy bees who are too caught up with their hectic lifestyles. Pure Yoga is offering complimentary yoga classes to encourage people to take a breather from their stressful work lives. Participate in the exciting lineup of yoga classes to celebrate International Yoga Day. It includes blindfold yoga where you get to practise balance and find tranquility to relieve stress. That’s not all, you will also get to try out the Hatha Basics, Yin Yang and Vinyasa classes. Open to all ages and levels, now is the time to give yoga a shot if you have yet to try it.
