For all the convenience texting brings, it throws in a fair amount of awkwardness into the mix. We add “lol” at the end of almost every sentence because we don’t want to come across cold or brash, but we do so at the risk of sounding like a giggly teenager. Sometimes, we also try to be friendlier by using emojis, but cute as they are they can also come across, well, childish.
And then there’s the anxiety we get when someone doesn’t reply our text. Doesn’t matter if it’s the dude we’ve been talking to, a friend we’re having a fight with, or even our boss — the radio silence is as disconcerting.
