The IKEA X Virgil Abloh MARKERAD Collection Is What Every Millennial Homeowner Needs


Calling all millennials who will be moving into their first home: the newest IKEA collection is designed just for you. Virgil Abloh, the founder of one of the world’s most sought-after fashion brands, Off-White, has teamed up with Swedish furniture retailer IKEA to produce the MARKERAD limited edition collection. Conceptualised with the needs of millennials in mind, every item in this highly-anticipated homeware collection is designed to be a statement piece that will give any new (or old!) home its own distinct character.

Virgil’s design ethos is evident in pieces like the MARKERAD chair. At first glance, it looks like a typical IKEA chair but look closely and you will see that a doorstop has been added to one of the legs. This detail transforms an anonymous everyday object into something unexpected and out of the norm. His signature quotation marks also add a sense of irony and humour to common items such as clocks, rugs, carrier bags and toolboxes. However, the item that probably stands out the most is the large rug that comes in the form of an IKEA receipt. Place it on the floor or hang it on the wall. It will definitely be a conversation starter in any home.

The MARKERAD collection will be available only in IKEA stores from October 31 onwards. Each person is limited to a purchase of two pieces per MARKERAD product and four MARKERAD dining chairs on a first-come-first-served basis.
