But does one need to buy a travel insurance when you’re going to countries that are an hour away from Singapore? The short answer is yes.

Yesterday, 18 Singaporeans were injured after a bridge at Montigo Resorts Nongsa collapsed. Fifteen of the injured Singaporeans were sent to the hospital, while the other three, who suffered light injuries, were treated at the scene.

News website Detik.com quoted the Riau Islands provincial police spokesman as saying “The wooden foundations of the bridge have probably decayed, leading to its collapse.”

“Of the 15 rushed to hospital, two had serious injuries,” Col Erlangga said.

The website also reported that some of the injured were taking selfies when the bridge collapsed.
