Another day, another shady Telegram chat group. Four men, aged between 26 and 45, were arrested on Wednesday (Nov 6) for allegedly circulating obscene materials through a chat group known as ‘Sam’s lots of CB collection’ on Telegram.
Previously, the police have looked into similar Telegram chat groups SharingIsCaring and SG Nasi Lemak. Four men were arrested for their involvement in the latter. Just FYI, chat groups sharing obscene materials are illegal in Singapore because the distribution of pornographic materials is against the law here.
On Oct 24, the police received a report against the ‘Sam’s lots of CB collection’ chat group for circulating obscene materials.
Through investigations, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identities of the men and nabbed them.
Preliminary investigations revealed that three men, aged between 29 and 45, are the administrators behind the said chat group, while the 26-year-old man has advertised the sale of obscene materials.
More than 15 electronic devices, including a central processing unit, several laptops, hard-disk drives and mobile phones, were seized as case exhibits.
Investigations are ongoing.
Anyone convicted for an offence of circulating of obscene materials shall be punished with a jail term of up to three months and/or a fine.
In a statement on Friday (Nov 8), the police advised members of the public to stop soliciting in any lewd website or joining such online platforms and illicit chat groups.
“The police take a serious view of anyone involved in criminal activities and will continue to take tough enforcement actions against those breaking the law,” they added in the statement.
