Who doesn’t want to sleep their way to better hair and skin? So when we heard about this 100% mulberry silk pillowcase that is meant to improve everything from your hair to your skin — and even your gut — we had to give it a try.

The idea behind it is that silk pillow cases contain fibres more similar to your hair. This should result in less hair damage, such as split ends, knots and tangles. At the same time, it’s supposed to help your hair retain moisture and regulate your scalp’s sebum production — so moist without being oily.

Silk also breathes better and doesn’t clog your pores. It’s hypoallergenic and resists various allergens like mould, fungus (super eww) and so it’s good for everyone but in particular, people with allergies. It also isn’t supposed to damage your skin at night because it reduces sleep creases and also helps the skin retain moisture.

With all this in mind, three of us decided to “sleep on the job” and figure out whether it really works. To be fair, we only tested the pillow for about a week so perhaps we didn’t give it a fair go. But here’s what we thought anyway:

The verdict:

The pillow is also supposed to support a healthy gut, supporting its regular rhythms which match those of your circadian rhythms (your sleep patterns). I’m not sure any of us found it particularly better for our digestive systems, but maybe this just needs a lot more time. For now, it’s a little hard to say whether the pillow case or maybe just some better hair and skin products will really benefit you.
