The quest for perfect skin sends girls of all ages, all over the globe, in search of the quickest fix. But to achieve clear skin, we need to understand what causes breakouts, as well as the ingredients that will help heal the offending spots pronto.

  1. Know the cause
    According to Dr Liz Dawes-Higgs, consultant dermatologist at Northern Sydney Dermatology, acne is caused by a number of factors. These include a special ‘acne’ bacteria and blockage of the oil glands in your skin, which leads to the oil glands becoming red and swollen. You then see this as a pimple or pustule on your skin.

  2. Avoid sugar
    Research shows that a high glycemic load, or sugar level, can be associated with acne. So a long-term diet full of sugar and chocolate may be making your spots worse!

  3. Use peels
    Superficial chemical peels are great for improving skin’s texture and helping clear up acne.
