Nothing is quite as frustrating as spending hours to make your makeup look on-point, only to have it all melt the moment you step out of your house and into the blazing heat. Here are eight tips to keep your makeup sweat-proof to withstand those dreadful 34ºC days.

Go for oil-free bases
If you have oily skin, use an oil-free moisturiser and foundation. Makeup tends to slip when your face is oily, so instead of slapping on more oil onto your skin, keep your skin matte with oil-free products.

Invest in a primer
Consider the few seconds you spend applying a primer as time well spent. A primer should be slathered on after skincare and before foundation. It not only helps your makeup last longer, but also allows for smoother application of makeup.

Top off with setting powder
Make your base makeup last longer by finishing off with setting powder. This will help to absorb sweat and oil produced throughout the day and give you a flawless smooth, matte finish. To avoid a cakey finish, opt for translucent powder or powder with light coverage. But remember, go easy on it.

Use creamy lip stains
There is often a tradeoff between a moisturising lipstick and its lasting power, but here’s a product that not only moisturises your puckers, but also lasts all day – a creamy lip stain, like the Too Faced Liquefied Long Wear Lipstick. Marrying the shine of a gloss with the lasting power of a stain, this lip product is not overly drying and requires minimal touchups throughout the day.

Ditch the powder blush
Powder blushes are often unable to survive the ravages of the mid-day sun, so opt for a cream or liquid formula instead. Cream blushers are easier to blend and tend to look more natural than powder blushers, whereas the liquid ones are rich and long-lasting, although they require more blending.
Tarte Cheek Stain, $49
Smudge-proof everything
While waterproof products usually seal the deal when it comes to preventing smudging, oil can also cause smudging, so play it safe by looking for smudge-proof products. These products will keep your makeup intact even when you sweat buckets and your face looks like an oil slick. If you really must, although it’s unnecessary on most days, try MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Aqua Seal, which waterproofs and smudge-proofs normal makeup.
