The CLEO Team Tries: Long Wear Foundations

Living in this hot tropical climate means having to suffer streaky or slowly vanishing makeup. The challenge is always to find one that stays put all day, yet remain natural looking. Basically we want the best of everything when it comes to perfecting our complexion because nobody wants to look like they’re wearing a ton of makeup – even if there’s much to conceal. Depending on your skin type, if it’s oily, look for one with more mattifying properties but if you have normal to dehydrated skin, pick one that offers more hydration to keep skin supple.

Here, the CLEO team put some of long wear foundations to the test to see if they survive the long hours and hot humid weather.

Tried: YSL Fusion Ink Foundation

Cynthia Chew, senior beauty editor

“I tried it, moved on to others, but I always come back to this. It’s one fluid foundation that has the most awesome texture and finish. It feels so featherlight you can hardly feel anything on the skin yet it veils over the skin like an invisible camouflage. What’s more I can use it with or without finishing it with a powder and I don’t ever have to touch up my makeup for the rest of the day.” – Cynthia, Senior Beaty Editor

Tried: Kat Von D Lock-it Foundation

Hidayah Idris, digital writer

“If you’re looking for a long lasting foundation, this is it. It not only lasts through the day, but also provides full coverage. In fact, I only needed one pump to cover my entire face! It leaves a matte finish and my face stayed shine-free even at the end of the day. More importantly, it wasn’t streaky even though I didn’t set it with powder. I was a bit apprehensive because it made my skin feel a little tight, like how you’d feel when your skin is too dry, but surprisingly, it didn’t dry my skin out nor cause any irritation to my sensitive skin. This certainly lives up to the raves I’ve seen in YouTube.” – Hidayah, Senior Digital Writer

Tried: Urban Decay All-nighter Liquid Foundation

Sophie Hong, features writer

“I put it on at around 11:30am in the morning. Since I have a few spots on my right cheek at the moment, I built up a couple of layers and was relieved that the foundation alone is enough to cover them up. The foundation has a matte finish, but after a walk back to the office after lunch, there was a bit of shine on my T-zone and cheeks – but the coverage is still there. When I reached home at 10pm at night, my matte finish had completely turned into a dewy finish, thanks to my oily complexion. But hey, at least the spots were still covered up. To be honest, with our humidity, it is impossible to stay totally matte for over 12 hours.” – Sophie, Senior Features Writer

Tried: Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Perfectly Satin 24HR Foundation

Karen Fong, associate editor

“It felt great going on, not at all sticky and coverage was really good. I tested it without concealer (or primer, oops) and liked the way it pretty much got all my pimples and dark circles covered. By the end of the day it was definitely a little sweaty but I’d spent the afternoon running all over Singapore for work so that was expected. I think it still looked pretty good for a photo taken at 9pm at night (though maybe it’s my mascara I need to change!).” – Karen, Associate Editor
