The Real Reason You Should Never Sleep With Your Makeup On

We know, we know, it’s very bad for your skin to fall asleep without taking off your makeup, no matter how tired you might be. However, we didn’t know that there’s a lot more at stake than just bad skin and break outs (not that we want those either).

Makeup that isn’t properly removed clogs up your pores and can really dry out your skin causing wrinkles. But it can also lead to eye irritations and worse and that’s definitely something we don’t want. We had no idea a little old mascara could go down in such a bad way. Here’s what can happen.

The skin around your eye area is the most sensitive of all

Particles from eyeshadow can cause pore blockage and lead to wrinkles around the eye area. But it can also irritate the surface of the eye and cause inflammation. At the very worst, it can lead to eye infections like conjunctivitis.

Not removing your eyeliner properly can lead to redness and irritation.

Lashes lose their lustre

Mascara can clog follicles and irritate the skin, leading to conjunctivitis at the worst.  As if that’s not bad enough, it can also make your lashes brittle and cause them to fall out.

While it all sounds pretty stressful, removing eye makeup doesn’t have to be a huge chore if you have a good makeup remover that is both gentle and “hard working.” To finish off, use a warm, damp cotton over the eyes to remove any leftover makeup and to soothe away potential irritation. Your eyesight will thank you.
