When it comes to looking good, some of us take cues from cabin crew – simply because they are required to look presentable at all times. This basically means perfectly coiffed hair and makeup that’s on-point.
We’ve spoken to SQ girls on their secrets to looking good, but do the cabin crew from other airlines swear by the same tips? We speak to Amelia, a cabin crew from Emirates, to find out her beauty secrets.
Never forgo a primer for long-lasting makeup
“You need primer. On board, usually you need to maintain a very good skin, so you don’t need to put so much makeup to cover it.”
Don’t put on too much powder
“I usually only put powder, and I don’t put too much because it gets cakey after [a while], and when I’m working, the air is naturally very dry so my skin gets very oily. So I usually put loose powder, put lipstick, eyeliner, the basics.”
Touch up with a face mist
“I always have my face mist with me. Whenever I want to refresh my face, I don’t touch up because it’s dirty. I don’t want to mix my makeup with the dirt that I’ve been exposed to, so I always just dab [my face] with tissue and spray a face mist. I’ll touch up like eyeliner and stuff like that, but not the foundation.”
Drink lots of water
“Hydrate a lot. We drink a lot of water onboard, especially because [we spend about] eight hours on board, [but] we’re generally not aware that [our skin] very dry so we try to drink a whole bottle of water.”
Put on masks
“Put a lot of masks and go for regular facials. In Dubai we get, as cabin crew, we get discounts at a lot of beauty salon so we go in once in two months for a facial.”
Get your beauty sleep
“Sleep a lot and workout, because sweating helps to remove the toxins. … And your face actually get that glow from working out.”
Cut down on spicy food
“Eat healthy, don’t keep eating the fried and spicy stuff. I love spicy food but after joining [Emirates, I realised] spicy food and flying doesn’t go very well. So the first year … I kept getting a lot of breakouts [and] I didn’t know what the cause was. Because before that, my skin was normal to dry, and now it’s like oily combination. So obviously, I had to stop eating spicy food, I had to start eating more greens and working out.”
