Would you like to go Dutch or get a fishtail? No, we’re not referring to bills and food; we’re talking about braids. This go-to hairstyle is getting an upgrade this season with a new twist (pun totally intended) – the rope braid. We’ve got some style inspo for you to follow here and a simple how-to so you can own the look too!
- One-sided Affair
Go boho without channeling hobo with a messy side braid down your shoulder. Curl your hair beforehand to create a windswept look, but be sure to pile on some hair spray to keep it together as you strut the streets in style.

- Twisted Angel
A braided halo creates a dainty look and keeps your hair out of the way too. It may seem complicated, but all you really need to do is create braided pigtails before pinning them across your head. Make sure you secure them tightly, because a lopsided halo is not what any angel needs!
- Pony Up
A simple twist on the classic ponytail is all it takes for your ‘do to go from blah to brilliant in a flash. Go for a perky pony to smarten up your hairfie, or throw a hat over a low braid for a dash of sophistication.
Do It Yourself!
It doesn’t take a pro to create the perfect rope braid. Just comb your hair and apply styling clay or pomade. Then tie your hair up into a ponytail and separate it into two even sections before twisting each one around your finger tightly. Cross the sections over each other in the opposite direction from the way you wound them and do this until you reach the end of your ponytail. Use an elastic band to secure your rope braid and voila, you’re ready to go!
