I Tried This Cult-Favourite Serum To Tame My Frizzy Hair

John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Serum Ginseng Extract review hair serum

When you live in a hot and humid climate (where it also rains regularly), the fight against frizz is real. Especially if you also have thick hair that has a mind of its own. This means I’ll try literally any product that claims to fight frizz. I’ve tried mists, masks and oils, all with varying degrees of success. So when the international award-winning John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Serum landed on my desk, I thought, why not give it a go? What’s more, it’s been recently upgraded with premium herbal ginseng extract and snapped up the CLEO Beauty Hall of Fame award for Best Frizz-taming Treatment.

The product

The John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Serum is one of the OG frizz-fighting products out there. Since it launch in the UK 30 years ago, it has won multiple beauty awards. The formula is a potent mix of silicones and silk protein that helps keep moisture from the air out of your hair, so it stays smooth, manageable and frizz-free. The addition of premium herbal ginseng extract helps to nourish and strengthen each strand to give it that extra oomph.

Tried and tested

The battle against frizz starts right out of the shower. I used two pumps of the John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Serum (Ginseng Extract) for my thick, mid-length hair. After spreading the product in my palms, I worked it into the lengths of my wet (not damp) hair, avoiding the scalp area. I then ran a wide-tooth comb through my hair to make sure the product was evenly distributed.

Before (left) using the hair serum, my hair was unruly and frizzy; but after (right), it’s more manageable and looks smoother.

At first, it felt a bit sticky, but it was soon absorbed. The serum also doubles as a heat protectant so I don’t have to use another product before I blow-dry my hair—in fact, the serum is heat-activated, so it actually works better if you blow-dry. By the time I was done blow-drying, there was no trace of any product. My hair felt soft to the touch and was less frizzy than usual. If you have split ends, you can add a tiny bit more of the John Frieda Frizz Ease Original Serum (Ginseng Extract) on the ends of your hair.

The verdict

This serum has definitely made my unruly hair more manageable—it’s now easier to style and has fewer flyaways. As the day progressed, it still didn’t look frizzy, and my strands looked smooth even on the next day. Another plus point is if you’re not a fan of scented hair products, you’ll be pleased to know that it doesn’t leave an overpowering scent. I’m not the only one who likes the effect it has on my hair, though. These ladies also had a similar experience. Watch their testimonial below:
