When Singaporean actresses Chantelle Ng and Tay Ying first heard that they would be working with K-pop star Sandara Park of 2NE1 fame for Get It Beauty On The Road, their reaction was pretty much the same as ours – awestruck.
At the media conference for the spin-off of the popular Korean beauty TV show Get It Beauty, Chantalle said, “When I first heard her name, I was like, ‘Oh my God, what am I going to do?’ I was really nervous.”
She added: “I remember the first day we met her, I walked in and [thought], ‘Do I smile or do I wave? What do I do?’ I was in front of an international superstar, so when I first talked to her I was like, (in a small voice) ‘Hi.’ (Laughs) But she was really nice. I think it’s so beautiful to see that she’s so famous, but she’s so grounded. There’s a lot to learn from her. It was really an honour [to work with her].”
Likewise, Tay Ying had nothing but praises for the 34-year-old. She said, “… she’s so beautiful inside out; she’s like an angel. We had a lot of fun working together.”
Sandara, also known as Dara, is in town to film the tvN original production, which will premiere on July 10. Last year, the singer was a cast member of Get It Beauty, alongside main host Honey Lee. This time round, Dara will be the main host, and will be joined by Chantalle and Tay Ying, as well as Korean beauty experts Kim Ki Soo and Song Jin Joo.
But trying out beauty products was not the only thing on her agenda in Singapore. Dara said, “… I think I did everything [I wanted to do] for the past seven days after the shoot. I was so tired and sleepy, but I still went around the city to look around. I went to places like Universal Studios and the Singapore Flyer and went to Clarke Quay last night. I enjoyed it a lot.”
Despite having been a celebrity since 2004 (she was active in the Philippines before debuting as a 2NE1 member), Dara admitted she was nervous about hosting the show. She said, “… it was my first time being a host and I had to use English (shudders). It was my first time to do something [like this] in Singapore, so I prepared a lot. I have so many things to share about K-beauty to Singaporeans and my fans, so I hope you guys will like it.”
