Using expired products
Once a product has passed its best-by date (check the packaging for this) the preservatives are less effective and the chemical structure altered. Bacteria and germs will also have accumulated over a period of time. All of this together can lead to acne.
Not washing your makeup tools
Brushes and sponges that haven’t been washed in more than a week harbour bacteria which are instantly transferred to your face when you apply your makeup. This bacteria can cause acne and infections.
Applying makeup without washing your hands
Keyboard, phone, hand bag – your fingers are constantly in contact with germs and bacteria that can transfer to your makeup and your face. It’s best to wash your hands before applying makeup with your fingers to avoid breaking out.
Using the wrong makeup formula
Using the wrong makeup formula for your skin type can also lead to acne. If you have oily skin, look for oil-free, non-comedogenic formulas that won’t clog pores while if your skin is sensitive look for gentle, alcohol-free formulas.
