It’s hard to find a colour that suits all skin tones – although Fenty Beauty’s Stunna Lip Paint comes close – so when Rihanna dropped the matte lipstick collection for her Fenty Beauty range, Mattemoiselle, we wondered if the colours would be all-inclusive, like her foundations are. We put it to the test by seeking out four people with different skin tones to swatch the colours on.

We’ve tried our best to keep the lighting consistent by using the same lightbox to light it up, but swatches may differ when seen under different lighting conditions. The colours may also appear slightly different on your arm and lips.

What we found while swatching the colours:

  • The colours are budge-proof. One sheet of a makeup remover wasn’t enough to get rid of all the colours and even after three sheets, you can see a hint of colours on the arm. Not the kind of lipstick you want on your arm, but definitely the kind you want on your lips.
  • It glides on smoothly. Despite having a matte finish, the lipstick glides on smoothly and doesn’t appear patchy.
  • Some colours look different in tube than on arm. Which is why, you should always swatch before buying! (Or Google for swatches, at least.)
