I’m quite a fuss-free girl when it comes to my hair—the kind that gets a good haircut so I can put minimal effort into managing my hair. Occasionally, I will decide to style my hair, which involves prepping my hair with a balm before blow-drying it, then using a leave-in serum to tackle any frizz, a smoothing balm to flatten any flyaways and a spritz of hair spray to keep the style in place. While I love how it looks after, I just don’t have the time to style my hair every morning. So in a bid to streamline my hair routine and keep it looking good, I decided to try creating a hairstyle with just two products—the Matomage Hair Arrangement Water and the Matomage Hair Styling Stick (Regular).
Start With A Styling Water
My hair is quite thick and when left to air-dry, can get quite frizzy. To tame my hair and make it more manageable, I generously spritzed Matomage Hair Arrangement Water over the lengths, avoiding the scalp. Think of it as a hair wax, but in liquid form. It’s packed with three types of nourishing oils—camellia, argan and baobab—to help keep your hair hydrated and healthy. Then I combed in the product (I used a comb, but you can also use your fingers if you’re in a hurry).
I like that the Matomage Hair Arrangement Water has a super fine mist and doesn’t weigh my hair down. My hair actually felt a bit fuller after application, so this would be great for those with fine hair. Unlike traditional hair wax, it has a light hold without making your hair feel stiff or crunchy.
What I love about this product is that it offers multiple benefits in a single product. For one, it minimises frizz, so I didn’t have to use a separate serum. It also makes my hair feel less slippery and easier to manipulate, making it easier to style my hair.
Finish With Styling Stick
Since I have a lot of baby hair and some broken strands, flyways have always been a problem for me. This is where the Matomage Hair Styling Stick (Regular) came in handy. It’s such a small, cute and well-designed product that you can use without getting your hands dirty. Just pull off the cap and apply. I literally applied it only to the areas that needed further smoothing.
This kept my hair looking smooth and neat for about four to five hours. There were some errant strands that refused to stay down, but the Matomage Hair Styling Stick (Regular) is small enough to fit in your bag, so you can reapply when needed. Plus, you won’t see any whitish deposit or product buildup upon reapplication, which is great.
Best of all, it has camellia oil that helps to keep your hair looking natural and soft, unlike some other smoothing balms that can make your hair stiff and dry. Since I’m prone to an oily scalp, it did make my roots look slightly oily. But I was surprised to find that it didn’t leave an oily sheen on my hair. If you have stubborn flyaways, the Matomage Hair Styling Stick also comes in a “Strong” version.
When I brushed my hair at the end of the day, it didn’t feel sticky or stiff. To really put it to the test, I kept the product on and didn’t wash my hair the next day, and it remained smooth without feeling oily. Colour me impressed.
