1. Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix Setting Spray
The website says… This light and comfortable mist seals the makeup and keeps it in place by coating the skin with a weightless and invisible film. The mist provides a continuous protection for the makeup and skin against external attacks (pollution, temperature variations…) by creating a colorless and imperceptible shield made from active hydrating ingredients.
“I told Adora I needed a moisturising/hydrating setting spray because I was going to Japan in winter. While it wasn’t snowing when I was there, the 8-degree Celcius weather meant my skin would be drier than it would be in Singapore.
I did my makeup at 8am, spritzed on some spray and left my Airbnb for a long day ahead, which included a flight back to Singapore. After a few hours of walking in the cold, I noticed my makeup was still intact, but this wasn’t a surprise because usually it doesn’t fade until at night even without setting spray.
I boarded the plane back to Singapore at around 6pm, and when I visited the restroom mid-air just before we landed, I had a shock: My makeup was cakey and there were dry patches on my face. Granted, the air in the plane was dry, but I guess I had unrealistically high expectations of the setting spray, thinking it could lock in moisture. I guess it’s my bad for expecting it to work like a moisture spray?”

2. MAC Prep + Prime Fix+
The website says… A lightweight mist of water packed with vitamins and minerals, infused with a blend of green tea, chamomile and cucumber to gently soothe and refresh the skin. Gives an instant boost of hydration while delivering a soft sheen to refresh and finish makeup.
“We were driving around Singapore and spending quite a lot of time outside, so I wanted to see how my makeup would survive. We ended up at Seletar where we hung out for a few hours.
To be honest, I think my makeup would have looked the same with or without setting spray given that I was out a lot sweating it off. It looked pretty much as expected after about six hours (that is, faded and a little smudged).”

3. Nyx Makeup Setting Spray - Matte Finish
The website says… Demand perfection! For that fresh makeup look that lasts, the Makeup Setting Spray – Matte is a gorgeous shine-free matte finish that is lightweight and comfortable while working hard to make sure your makeup stays put.
“I had a full day out. I had to attend a press conference then go for a concert at night. As I don’t normally apply a lot of makeup, I don’t have the habit of bringing my makeup around with me for touch-ups, so how long my makeup lasted that day was solely dependent on how good the setting spray was.
I usually have oily skin, but at the end of the night, I didn’t feel that my face was drenched in oil. Considering how I was on the go the entire day and was screaming during the concert, I was impressed by how supple and smooth my skin was after .
Though my makeup wasn’t that obvious after the concert, my eyeshadow and highlight were still evident when I reached home. What I really like about the setting spray is the fact that it leaves a matte finish and did its job.”

4. Nyx Makeup Setting Spray - Dewy Finish
The website says… Demand perfection! For that fresh dewy glow that lasts, the NYX Professional Makeup Setting Spray – Dewy is lightweight and comfortable while working hard to make sure your makeup stays put.
“I tried on the setting spray for a whole day at work – over cushion foundation, concealer, some eyebrow pencil and lipstick. While my skin was a wee bit less shiny than usual by the end of the night, it didn’t really make my makeup last longer.
And though it leaves a dewy finish spray, it didn’t turn my oily-combination skin into an oil slick, which is great! The
application however can be improved since the mist isn’t so fine, so if you’re trying this out, prepare to get your face a little wet.”
– Zoe, Editorial Intern
5. Urban Decay All Nighter - Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray
The website says… Is makeup meltdown ruining your midnight mojo? Mist on this weightless spray to give your makeup serious staying power. All Nighter keeps your makeup looking gorgeously just-applied for up to 16 hours – without melting, cracking, fading or settling into fine lines.
“I was told to party all night to test the legitimacy of this setting spray, but my party stars were not aligned that weekend. Nonetheless, I did hang out with some friends from 5pm till 2:30am, which culminated in a hotpot supper sesh.
My contour did not hold up in the face of aggressive mala steam, and my matte complexion turned into an oil spill tragedy – but that said, my smokey eye was still there (although it was a little smudge-y), complete with a still-intact winged liner. My blusher is usually the first to go, but I was surprised to find that my cheeks still look flushed at the end of the night.”

6. Kat Von D Lock-It Makeup Setting Mist
The website says… Kat’s powerful formula is dispensed through an innovative Soft Mist System. This non-aerosol dispenser delivers the luxurious, continuous spray you get from an aerosol, in an environmentally friendly format—score! The refreshing, weightless micro-mist keeps makeup looking fresh and vibrant for a full 24 hours. That’s 8 hours longer than the leading spray!
“I attended two weddings, went for a late-night movie and took a nap in the middle of the day with my makeup on. Six hours in, my makeup was still holding up pretty well and I didn’t wake up to a meltdown. But at the end of 12 hours, half of it had faded away — though that was to be expected since I had put my face through lots of different environmental stress.
I love that it didn’t make my makeup patchy, but it wasn’t super hydrating either. It kept the oiliness of my skin under control though, and my face wasn’t as shiny as it usually is the entire time.”
