One of the most exciting launches from Dior next year is the Capture Youth range – a customisable skincare line that helps to prevent signs of ageing. Consisting of a cream and five serums, this new range is designed to help treat signs of ageing before they appear.

Yes we hear you. At our age, the last thing we think we need in our skincare routine is age-delaying products. But Dior’s latest research shows that it’s critical to start taking anti-ageing precautions from the age of 25. Here’s why.

We already know that things like pollution, smoking, stress, and sun exposure can cause us to look older. But just what is it about these things that causes our skin to deteriorate?

It turns out that when our skin is stressed, it produces compounds called glyoxal and methylglyoxal, which can cause irreversible cellular damage. In their studies with the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Dior researchers have discovered that our skin has a natural defence system, which produces an enzyme called glyoxalase that neutralises the dangerous compounds.

The bad news? Your skin loses this with age – starting from 25. Which is why now is the perfect time to start on an anti-ageing skincare regimen designed for younger women.

Prevention is better than cure

One of the biggest breakthroughs in the medical world today is predictive medicine. This involves doctors examining patient profiles to see what diseases might show up later in life, and taking preventive measures to lower that risk.

Applying the same principle to skincare, Dior created a new range called Capture Youth, designed to help treat signs of ageing before they appear. Consisting of a cream and five serums, the common ingredient across these products is the extract from the Iris flower, which has been scientifically proven to boost glyoxalase activity by 17 percent.

“This is not a corrective product,” explains Edouard Mauvais-Jarvis, Dior’s environmental and scientific communication director. “It’s not designed to go back in time. It’s a matter of keeping things as they are.”

According to him, you should choose which of the five serums to use based on your skin type, as it says a lot about the type of skin issues you may face later in life. For example, skin that tends to produce excess oil will have open pores; if you have thin skin, it’ll be prone to sagging; and if you have sensitive skin, spider veins might show up years later.

“If you want to be more efficient, you need to act in anticipation, before things appear. And it needs to be more personalised, because every individual is different,” he adds.

So, how do you use the Dior’s new Capture Youth range?

1. Choose one or two serums, depending on your skin’s needs.
2. Apply the serum(s), then the cream.
2. Mix 2-3 drops of serum into the cream then apply.

Tip: Like multi-masking, you can use different serums on different parts of your face to target specifc skin woes. For example, use Dior’s Redness Soother on irritated spots, and Matte Maximizer on your T-zone to help control shine.

The Dior Capture Youth Range is available at all Dior counters from Jan 2018.
