It is estimated that about 50 per cent of all women think they suffer from sensitive skin. That said, it is important to note that sensitive skin is a very loosely used term, and often confused with sensitised skin a condition where it is prone to dryness, flaking, itching, stinging and redness. And while having sensitised skin doesn’t necessarily mean you are suffering from or susceptible to other skin conditions like eczema and dermatitis, it can be a pain — and quite literally so — if your skin has become irritated or inflamed.
When that happens, not only do you have to avoid using obviously harsh ingredients, you have to be absolutely discerning about which products you’re using so as to avoid aggravating it further, while simultaneously calming inflammation, repairing your skin and keeping it protected. A rule of thumb is to look for products that are hydrating, soothing and designed to strengthen the skin’s barrier. These products are usually formulated with ingredients that deliver moisture, provide skin with antiseptic properties and help rebuild the skin’s barrier layer so that it is able to retain moisture and keep potentially irritating particles out. Here, eight natural ingredients to look for that will help skin heal.
