First things first: K-pop boy band AB6IX has five members. “Huh, then why are they called six?” The number represents the five members and their fandom, ABNew.
And the boys of AB6IX, Lim Young Min, Jeon Woong, Kim Dong Hyun, Park Woo Jin and Lee Dae Hwi, who were in town last weekend for their first fan meeting in Singapore, never failed to remind fans how important they were to the group—if their name wasn’t telling enough.
Case in point: when asked how ABNew contributes to the group, Dae Hwi said in English, “I think our lovely fans are in charge of contributing their smiles.” Nawww… The boys also went on to pick ABNew as their favourite member because they couldn’t pick among the five of them.
Apart from dripping with sweetness, the boys also showed off their funny sides, as they poked fun at one another and said some pretty hilarious things during the open press conference at Star Vista last weekend.
Dae Hwi: “I never look at mirrors!”
When asked who looks at the mirror the most, most members pointed to Young Min, but Dae Hwi also got a few votes. Indignant, Dae Hwi exclaimed, “I never look at mirrors!” OK, we believe you, Dae Hwi. *winks*
Young Min not remembering anything about his days in Singapore
Young Min had lived in Singapore for five years when he was younger, so everyone was eager to know what he remembered most about our city. As if disappointed for not having a model answer, he apologised and said, “I was too young back then so I cannot remember it.” We don’t blame you—we don’t even remember what we ate for dinner after the press conference, so totes understandable.
The member with the most random TMI is…
In K-pop speak, TMI refers to a random nugget of information—not too much information (often unsolicited), like what most people would know. When asked what their TMI of the day was, Woo Jin answered, “I was the last one to get my hair and makeup done.” Young Min revealed that he kept waking up and going back to sleep over and over again, while Dae Hwi presented us the most random piece of information: “This morning, I had chocolate after I woke up.” WIN.
Woong’s way of destressing happens to be Singaporeans’ favourite pastime
The members have different ways of relieving stress, and we can relate to each and every one of them: Woo Jin destresses by blasting music in the car, Young Min watches movies and dramas to get his mind off things, while Woong eats to destress. So relatable!
When Woo Jin threw shade at Dae Hwi (jokes guys, jokes.)
When the emcee asked if there was a moment when they look at themselves and think they’re amazing, Dae Hwi cheekily answered, “When I’m fresh out of the shower.” Woo Jin pretended to look surprised and asked, “Really?” As if burned by the shade, Dae Hwi indignantly asked, “Why? Because I don’t have makeup on then?” FYI, Young Min thinks he looks the most handsome after he has his makeup done.
The mystery of Ang Jung Soon
While playing a Whisper Challenge game (where they wear noise-cancelling headphones and have to guess what their teammate say based on mouth movements), Dong Hyun, who had the headphones on, had insisted that the answer to one of the questions posed was Ahn Jeong Sun. He said it so confidently (and repeatedly) that lead others to wonder, who is Ahn Jeong Sun? When that question was posed to him during the press conference, he sheepishly admitted, “I don’t know who that is.”
Bonus: the members’ first impressions of one another
Young Min: When I first saw Woong, he had a bright and sweet smile, so I wanted to befriend him quickly.
Woong: I met Dae Hwi when he was young and even then he was popular, so I thought, “Ah, he’s a born celebrity.”
Dae Hwi: When I first saw Woo Jin, he was really quiet, but now he’s really noisy. He’s very playful, he’s like an energy drink for AB6IX.
Woo Jin: At first, I found that Dong Hyun is quieter than I thought and didn’t talk a lot.
Dong Hyun: Young Min looked very tall to me and he was very cute and approachable.
