The 2019 Grammy Awards will be happening this weekend (Monday, 9am Singapore Time), but you may not be seeing Ariana Grande in attendance.
The 25-year-old singer has slammed Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich for “lying” about her. Ehrlich had earlier told the Associated Press that Grande will not be performing for the star-studded event because she “felt it was too late for her to pull something together”, but Grande disputed that claim yesterday in a series of tweets.
i’ve kept my mouth shut but now you’re lying about me. i can pull together a performance over night and you know that, Ken. it was when my creativity & self expression was stifled by you, that i decided not to attend. i hope the show is exactly what you want it to be and more. 🖤

She also hinted that the producers weren’t cooperative even though she tried to compromise.
“i offered 3 different songs. it’s about collaboration. it’s about feeling supported. it’s about art and honesty. not politics. not doing favors or playing games. it’s just a game y’all.. and i’m sorry but that’s not what music is to me,” she said in another tweet.
The celebrated star has been featured in advertising for the upcoming awards show, and Grande pointed out that she ironically “passed a Grammy’s bus with my face on it typing those.” She’s also up for two Grammy awards this year: best pop solo performance for God Is A Woman, and best pop vocal album for Sweetener.
Nonetheless, Grande ended her rant with gratitude. She tweeted: “hope that helps everyone understand my decision. i am still grateful for the acknowledgement this year.”
This year’s ceremony will see performances by artistes including Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Diana Ross.
