It was party atmosphere at the Singapore leg of B.A.P’s Party Baby tour last week at the Mastercard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands, Grand Theatre. Our city was the last stop of their world tour, so naturally, the sextet, Yongguk, Daehyun, Himchan, Youngjae, Jongup and Zelo, punctuated it with a bang.
Just like the title of their tour, the group got their fans, Babyz, into party mode with a guest performance by a DJ, who spun the group’s hits, as well as chart-toppers including “Shape of You”, before showcasing their vocals and dance chops to the legion of adoring fans.
But their musical skills weren’t the only things on display at the concert. The members also showed off their unique humour through their interactions with fans. Scroll the gallery to read some of the most humourous exchanges.

Here’s Why Song Joong Ki Might NOT Act With Song Hye Kyo Again
When they spoke Singlish
While all the members attempted to speak English, some of them took it a step further by taking a stab at our unofficial national language, Singlish. Youngjae said, “I feel so si-ok” – he meant shiok, of course. Similarly, Daehyun said, “All my Babyz, so power, so steady!” Himchan’s attempt? “Alamak, why my Babyz so pretty and handsome?” Zelo, on the other hand, chose to use one of our favourite ways to end a sentence, “leh”. He said, “My Babyz are so shy leh.” The intonation might have been a bit off, but props to them for their efforts!
When Himchan got confused over alphabets
Tickets for concerts in South Korea are often numbered (including mosh pit ones), so one has to excuse Himchan for being confused over our system of naming rows after alphabets. Even more so when he realised there was no row Z. “Shouldn’t there be row Z if there are people all the way to the back?” For those who haven’t gone for a concert at Mastercard Theatres Grand Theatre before, rows go from A to W, and then AA to OO for the first level. Even we were confused the first time round.
When Daehyun got a major burn from a fan
After Himchan picked a fan whom he said “has the same hairstyle as Yongguk”, Daehyun, Youngjae, Himchan and Yongguk quizzed her on who her favourite member was, while Jongup and Zelo got ready for their performance. The fan, who introduced herself as Anna, answered in fluent Korean, “[My favourite member is] not here; he’s getting ready.” She then picked Daehyun as her favourite among the members who were on stage, but when filmed by Youngjae, she exclaimed to the camera, “Jongup, I love you!” causing Daehyun to get up and sulk – right after she shared a love shot with Daehyun. The good news for her? She got hugs from Zelo and Jongup.
When Daehyun retorted to fans who told B.A.P not to go back to Korea
He said, “Think of it this way. When you guys go to Korea, your parents are waiting for you [in Singapore], right?” Unfortunately for him, the guilt-trip didn’t work because fans fervently answered in negative.
When the translator caused fans to erupt in laughter, leaving B.A.P confused
The translator, who seemed unfamiliar with the speed of translations for fan meetings, stumbled a few times and used awkward word choices (not his fault, he’s native Korean). At one point, while translating Youngjae’s message to fans, he said, “We’re really blessed to have… what do you call that?” He quickly recovered and gave a more accurate translation, “We’re really blessed to have a long history with you all.” However, that was enough to send fans into peals of laughter, which got Youngjae confused. He asked, “Why are you laughing? I’m serious!” When B.A.P found out fans were laughing because of the translator, they asked him on stage to chat with him for a bit, possibly to soothe his nerves.
When Youngjae attempted to start a water gun fight but got targeted instead
When Zelo and Jongup each picked up a water gun, Youngjae tried to make them shoot each other by acting as the “referee”, but instead was shot by Jongup. Zelo, who was oblivious to what was going on at the side, was also shot.
When Yongguk flashed his abs
Obviously not a funny moment, but more like a bonus for fans: Leader Yongguk flashed his abs during “Be Happy”. It was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, but our intern, Cheryl, was eagle-eyed enough to catch it and gush to this writer.
When they surprised fans with a second encore
Lesson learnt: Never be too hasty to leave a concert. When B.A.P performed their encore stage, fans wondered why the group was not in their usual encore T-shirts. As it turned out, they had another encore performance planned. Fans who were leaving the venue ran back to their seats before thronging to the front of the stage to get one last look at the boys before they wrapped up their tour.
