“Throughout the years, I’ve heard so many people say, ‘Oh she’s just a hot DJ, that’s why she’s gotten all these opportunities.’
I can tell you now that that’s all lies. Being good-looking might get you through the door, but to last in this business and to be respected—it takes way more than just a pretty face. You’ve got to have the drive, make sacrifices, hustle hard and have the right attitude, because it’s not going to be an easy road.
It’s especially tough for females. There’ll be people who won’t take you seriously because you’re ‘too pretty’ or ‘not pretty enough’. That’s why I’ve said this so many times: you’ve got to have thick skin, and don’t expect everybody to like you.
You’ve got to learn to shut down all that negativity and keep going. It’s easier said than done, but once you learn how to do that, you’ll be all right.
For me, I’ve decided to just let my talent and work speak for themselves. Everybody has an opinion. I’ve had people tell me that I am too sexy and that I needed to tone it down. It got to a point where I’m just like, ‘You know what? I’m just going to be myself and that’s it.’
The minute you let people get to you, that’s when you lose yourself. And guess what? You’re not going to be happy because you’re not being you.
I have many female fans (and male ones too!) say that I inspire them by being who I am, and that makes me so happy. At the end of the day, I feel like I’m here for a reason. And tomorrow isn’t promised, so I’m going to do the most that I can while I’m still here.”
