Justin Bieber Just Pranked People About Hailey’s Pregnancy

You might have survived April’s Fools Day yesterday, but on the other side of the world, i.e., the United States of America, it’s April 1 today. Which is why Justin Bieber thought it’d be fitting to play a prank on his followers—he posted a photo of a sonogram, and then of his wife, Hailey Bieber, having an ultrasound. Everyone assumed Hailey was pregnant and congratulated him—until they realised what day it is.

If U thought it was April fools

Some people took it to be real because he DID talk about focusing his efforts on being a husband and a father when he addressed why he wasn’t releasing new music. So that sounds legit, right?

But moments later, he uploaded a sonogram with a photo of a dog superimposed on it with the caption, “Wait omg is that a,,, APRIL FOOLS”.

OK, HAHA, that’s supposed to be funny, right?

Only, it’s not.

Sure, everyone has the right to make jokes and all, but there are women who actually have trouble conceiving, so it’s not that tasteful to turn a pregnancy into an April’s Fools joke. According to a Health Day in 2017, fertility rate in the U.S. hit a record low that year. In Singapore, the fertility rate was at a seven-year low last year, at 1.16.

Fertility is not just about whether people want to have children, but whether people can have children. When I was in my 20s (not too long ago), I saw friends who struggle to have kids—not because they have no time or money, but because no matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t. I know a couple who went to a fertility clinic to help their chances. Another went for IVF and tried a few times before she finally conceived. I also know of friends who finally conceived after a long time, but lost their babies.

Which is why to pass a pregnancy off as a April’s Fools joke is not being fair to those who actually struggle to have a baby.

We’re all for a good laugh, but in this case, this was just distasteful, Biebs.
