Kim Kardashian Is Studying To Become A Lawyer

Don’t anyhow make s*** up about her.

In a recent Vogue interview, Kim Kardashian dropped a bombshell that is way more surprising than a new product launch: she’s studying to become a lawyer.

Kim’s first brush with being involved in a law case came after she became interested in Alice Marie Johnson’s case. The African American grandmother had been sentenced to life imprisonment following her involvement in a drug trafficking organisation. Kim told Vogue, “Here’s a grandmother who took part in her first-time nonviolent offense and received the same sentence as Charles Manson. I just thought, This is so wrong and so bizarre, and how could that be?” Charles Manson is a white cult leader who had killed two people and ordered his followers to kill seven people, including actress Sharon Tate.

Kim then approached #cut50, who describes their mission as “a bipartisan effort to reform the criminal justice system”, to find out how she could help. She joined them for meetings, but it was during a meeting with the White House that she realised she needed to know and do more.

She says, “I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more.”

Kim met US President Donald Trump as part of the intervention and Alice was released in June last year after he commuted her sentence.

While in Singapore, you could pursue an undergraduate studies in law after junior college or polytechnic, in America, you’re required to have a degree before you can enter law school. Kim, who doesn’t have college qualifications, opted for another path offered to aspiring lawyers like herself: “reading the law”.

That involves one year of school, where she will learn about the basics of different types of law—she revealed she had scored 100 for her first test and said she can do criminal law in her sleep—and an apprenticeship before taking the “baby bar”. Only after passing the exam can she continue studying for three more years.

Her decision wasn’t surprising to her family members and husband Kanye West, who said “she’s always had it in her”. And we reckon it could be in the genes too—her father, Robert Kardashian, was a celebrity lawyer and was on the defense team for O.J. Simpson’s murder case.

Kim told Vogue, “On the weekends they used our home as an office, with Johnnie Cochran and Bob Shapiro,” Kim says. “My dad had a library, and when you pushed on this wall there was this whole hidden closet room, with all of his O.J. evidence books. On weekends I would always snoop and look through. I was really nosy about the forensics.”

The person who pushed her to study law was Jessica Jackson, a human rights attorney on the team who saw Kim’s interest in law. Jackson herself pursued law after dropping out of high school.

While Kim is likely to use her skills and influence to help causes she identifies with, we reckon her being a lawyer might also deter the papz from making things up about her because, can you smell a defamation suit?
