In September, there were reports of Korean actor Lee Kwang Soo leaving Busted!, a Netflix Korean variety show that aired earlier this year. Today, during Netflix’s See What’s Next: Asia media event that saw directors and actors taking up the panel, it was announced that Lee Kwang Soo is indeed not joining the show for the second season. Another actor, Lee Seung Gi, will take his place.

Seung Gi, who is well-known for his wit and humour, was on another variety show, 2 Days & 1 Night, prior to his enlistment. Later on, he joined other variety shows, including New Journey To The West.

Like his previous variety shows, Busted!, a crime investigation-based show, involves completing missions, which is why it comes as no surprise that he’s good at it.

Korean actress Park Min Young, who was present during the event, said, “We filmed the first episode and it seemed like Lee Seung Gi was originally already a member,” she said, referring to how he fit in with the rest of the cast, which also include Yoo Jae Suk, Kim Jong Min, EXO’s Sehun, Ahn Jae Wook and Kim Se Jong.

However, it seemed like the rest of the cast, he also has a silly side, which made him a good fit with the rest of them. But Seung Gi’s appearance was a surprise for Min Young. She admitted she wasn’t aware that he would be joining them. “Kwang Soo left so I guessed someone would be joining us. I tried guessing but I always got it wrong, so I gave up,” she said.

She added that she was happy that he joined because while there is quite a large age gap between her and the rest of the cast, Seung Gi, who is 31, is around the same age as the 32-year-old actress.

Min Young, who has been acting for more than a decade, said Busted! was her first attempt at being a regular cast member of a variety show. Unlike other variety shows, this show is unscripted and the stars don’t know what they’re in for until they arrive for the shoot. If you watched the show, you’d probably know that they have failed their missions before, but both Min Young and the director said that the stars have evolved in the second season.

Min Young, who was considered the ace player during the first season thanks to her wits and English-speaking skills, admitted that she felt like she had rivals from the beginning of filming season two. “Jong Min studied Sudoku,” she revealed, adding that the rest of the cast from season one seemed to have done their homework and are better investigators.

She joked, “We talk a lot among ourselves, and we said, ‘Aren’t we better now?'”
