How well do you know Priyanka Chopra, besides the fact that she was crowned Miss World in 2000 and that she’s marrying Nick Jonas? Not well? Fret not, for we’ve got you covered. Here are five things you might not have known about the 36-year-old, who will be tying the knot tomorrow.
Her father installed iron wrought gates around her house and bed to protect her
She said in an interview with DNA India, “When I was in the 12th standard and was just turning 17, an incident took place. My room was at a higher floor in Barielly and at night, a guy came to my balcony from our terrace. I didn’t know him but he was peeping through the window. I was scared. So, I went to my dad and said, ‘Papa, someone has come outside my room, someone is knocking’. The next day, my parents got the house and my bed barricaded with wrought iron rods like a cage. If a fire would have broken out in the house, we would have been burnt to death as there was no escape route.”
She owns a production company
She and her mother founded Purple Pebble Pictures, a production company that produces movies in various languages, including Punjabi, Marathi and Nepali. The aim of the company is to help new talent, including actors, writers and directors, grow. Her company will be producing a new movie, Firebrand, which will be shown on Netflix next year.
She’s a philanthropist
The actress is known for her charity efforts. She’s also a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and also has a non-profit organisation, Priyanka Foundation, which aims to help sick children and their families. She said in a previous interview, “I can’t eradicate poverty, but at least for the people around me, I can help make sure no child is denied a dream.” Her inclination towards charity work might be due to her doctor parents, who used to provide free medical care for people who couldn’t afford it. She said in an interview with The Huffington Post, “As a kid, philanthropy was a really big part of my family, and what we did. So, I just knew it was really an important part for me.”
Nick Jonas approached her first
In an interview with Vogue, she said, “It was Nick who sent the first message.” And yes, they started messaging each other—and even went out for drinks—even before attending the Met Gala together. The first time he went over to Priyanka’s apartment, her mother was in the house—in her nighties! But in case you’re wondering, no hanky panky took place.
She’ll be wearing a bespoke Ralph Lauren dress for her wedding
Like all other celebrity weddings, one of the most-anticipated things is obviously, the bride’s dress. Priyanka will reportedly be wearing a customised dress, made by Ralph himself. Prior to this, the designer has only personally made dresses for his daughter, daughter-in-law and niece. Why the exception? We’re guessing it might have something to do with the fact that he kinda played matchmaker since he invited them to Met Gala 2017—without knowing they were on their way to becoming something. Priyanka also wore a Ralph Lauren dress to this year’s Met Gala.
