In case you were wondering why #Danarelrapedme was trending at one point of time this week, here’s what you need to know – the hashtag started because of Singaporean blogger Xiaxue. But no, it didn’t start because of a real rape case.
It all started when American activist Dan Arel tweeted, “I believe rape victims”, which many concluded to mean unconditionally. To prove the fallacious argument, Xiaxue tweeted, “So I guess if I were to say I got raped by Dan Arel he would believe me?”
[Updated] According to a Twitter user Stephen Knight, Dan’s tweet was a follow-up of his previous accusation of someone being a rapist.
1. So, Dan Arel publicly accuses someone of being a rapist. When asked for evidence he offered "I believe victims [Accusers] of rape"…

Xiaxue reportedly went on to reply his original tweet, saying “@danarel raped me and his penis is tiny,” before adding, “Wait, is it still rape if it happens across continents?” The tweet has since been deleted after Dan removed his initial tweet that started the s***storm.
The American activist then followed up with another tweet, writing, “Everyone, please block and report @Xiaxue who is trying to accuse me of rape because I said I believe victims of rape.”
However, Xiaxue wasn’t making light of rape victims or the crime. Instead, she was simply pointing out the fallacy in Dan’s statement, albeit in her own way.
The internet took her side, and many left sarcastic replies to his call to get Xiaxue reported to Twitter. Others joined her in pointing out the flaw in his initial tweet through the hashtag #Danarelrapedme.
Dan then called Twitter out for not putting an end to the hashtag by tweeting, “Do me a favor and report and block folks on this hashtag. It’s f***ng out of control and @twitter is doing nothing.”
