DJ Martin Garrix Pulls Out Of Ultra Singapore Due To Injury

The bad news just keeps coming.

Those who were looking forward to attending Ultra Singapore this year may have found their spirits dampened yet again. One of the headlining acts – Martin Garrix – has revealed that he will be cancelling his performance at the event. While fans of the ‘Scared To Be Lonely’ DJ may be feeling heartbroken, the show simply cannot go on for Garrix.

In an Instagram post, the Dutchman explained how he had suffered a severe ankle injury during a show in Las Vegas and is resting under his doctor’s orders. The DJ will also be forced to pull out from all his upcoming performances in four weeks, and describes feeling ‘devastated’ by the cancellations.

Press Statement: Martin Garrix forced to cancel all shows coming weeks It is with deepest regrets that Martin Garrix has to announce that he is forced to cancel all his shows the coming weeks due to a serious ankle injury suffered during his show in Las Vegas on May 25th. Even though feeling positive after some days of rest, further examinations have determined that all his ankle ligaments are torn and surgery is needed to prevent permanent damage to his ankle. Therefore Garrix is forced to follow the specialist’s advice and cancel all his shows for at least the upcoming four weeks. Garrix: ’’I’m devastated that I have to cancel these shows since nothing makes me happier than performing for you guys. I feel most alive when I'm on stage, seeing you guys smile. I was really looking forward to it and I never want to disappoint my fans. Unfortunately this is out of my control and I will need a surgery and enough rest to fully recover. If I won’t get surgery now I might permanently damage my ankle, which could mean I won’t be able to perform at all anymore. I want to thank everyone for their continuous support and I hope to be able to get back on stage to perform for you guys again really soon.’’

This is the latest in the string of unfortunate events that have unfolded with regards to Ultra Singapore. The annual two-day EDM music festival, taking place on Saturday June 8th and Sunday June 9th, announced a last-minute venue change on Tuesday.

It was confirmed via Ultra Singapore’s Facebook and Instagram pages that the festival will be moved from its usual outdoor venue of the field next to Marina Bay Sands, to the smaller basement of MBS’ Sands Expo and Convention Centre. Citing ‘expected bad weather’ for the choice to move to an indoor venue, organisers are now faced with the daunting task of setting up the festival in three days, as well as dealing with the wrath of enraged and disappointed ticketholders.
