Review: Doodles, The Customisable Noodles Version Of Shaker Fries

When you think of noodles or pasta, you probably think of the calorie-laden and savoury mee rebus, hokkien mee or spaghetti Bolognese.

What if we told you that you can have your gluten sans the guilt or worry that your cholesterol level might take a hike? Doodles, a cold noodle bar, could be your answer.

The concept is pretty refreshing – it works like a salad bar, but instead of choosing mesclun or rocket salad, you can choose among three types of “noodles”: soba, fusilli and angel hair.

While they have the ala carte option ($2.50 for noodles, $1 for each vegetable topping, and $1.50 for each protein topping), the brand’s director Desmond Tan tells us that they often advise customers to go for the sets because they give your more bang for your buck. But if even the Om-Nom-Nomnivore set, which has four toppings, can’t satisfy you, you can add more toppings at ala carte prices.

Desmond says the toppings are a fusion of Western and Asian ingredients, an apt embodiment of what Singapore is – a rojak country. #preach

Doodles might be only available as a takeaway meal, but there’s good reason for that. One, it’s supposed to be a snack you can eat on-the-go. Two, it’s like fast food, only healthier – you can get everything in around two minutes (assuming you’re first in line).
