I don’t know about you, but whenever I’m in town with my friends, we always spend a long time figuring out where to eat. There’ll be that one person who doesn’t want to spend more than $20, and another who refuses to settle for food court fare. Also, I hate queuing for food when I’m hungry, which makes popular haunts like Masizzim and POMPOMPURIN Café out of the question.
So imagine my joy when I visited Olivia & Co. at Suntec City. There wasn’t a queue (I was there for lunch on a Wednesday), and prices are fairly reasonable too. The mains range from $14 to $24, and they’ve got all-day breakfast items on their menu for brunch lovers (i.e. me).
There’s a whole backstory behind the concept of Olivia & Co. (read the full story here) but long story short, Olivia is a fictional character who is bugged with wanderlust and expresses all her travel stories through food. How this translates into reality is that the dishes offered range across a variety of cuisines and some are interesting fusion creations.

You won’t get a gourmet meal here (let’s be real, for less than $20 you won’t get that anywhere in town), but you do get to satisfy your tummy and have a good time catching up with your friends at a cosy open-concept dining area.

Tokyo Wings, $9 for six and $16 for 12 pieces
Definitely a must-have here. Each piece is nicely seasoned in sweet teriyaki marinade, and every bite of the juicy wing comes with crispy and flavourful chicken skin.
Quayside Soft-Shell Crab Burger, $23
The tempura soft-shell crab is fairly crispy, and goes well with the soft buttered brioche buns that sandwich it. Together with sesame slaw, coriander, spring onion and jalapeño mayo, this makes quite a tasty dish. It also comes with a side of sweet potato fries, which just always does the trick.
The Cheeses, $23
This sandwich burger is reserved for the ravenous ones. With bread grilled in a variety of cheese and a large patty in between, it’ll definitely keep you feeling full for hours. The patty was a tad dry when I had it, but the bread was good and had me wanting more.
Spring Chicken, $14
You get half a chicken for less than $15, which is a plus right away. It is also surprisingly good for its price. The chicken is flavourful and the wasabi parmesan potato mash that comes with it is addictive as well. But stay away if you’re not a fan of wasabi. While the mash is not going to give you watery eyes, the taste of wasabi is still pretty strong.
Olivia Sticky Date Pancakes, $12
One of their all-day breakfast items, this is no doubt an indulgence no matter what time of the day you have it. It is made up of four sticky date pancakes drizzled in warm caramel peanut butter sauce and topped with sliced bananas and vanilla bean ice-cream. Yes, it tastes as cloyingly sweet as it sounds, which is why this is best for sharing.
Snorlax Waffle, $12
Not sure why this waffle is named after a Pokemon, but I don’t care because this tastes really good. The thick waffle is slightly crispy on first bite yet remains fluffy on the inside. Eat it with the berry compote, sliced banana, homemade peanut butter sauce and vanilla bean ice-cream that comes with it and you’ll enter waffle heaven – no kidding.
StrangeLove Organic Soda Pops, $7 each
I’m not a fan of fizzy drinks, but these Aussie sodas piqued my curiosity. Available exclusively at Olivia & Co. in Singapore, this range has four interesting flavours: Smoked Cola, Ginger Beer, Lemon Squash and Blood Orange & Chilli. My personal favourite is Smoked Cola, which includes hints of vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon, but those who are adventurous should try Blood Orange & Chilli. Let’s just say they weren’t kidding about the chilli.
Olivia & Co. is at #01-481, 3 Temasek Boulevard, Suntec City Mall (between Towers 1 & 2). They are opened from 9am to 9pm daily. Tel: 6337 2518
