A Korean actor, Kang Ji Hwan, has been arrested for sexual assault at his house in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Prefecture, South Korea.
The 42-year-old had allegedly sexually assaulted a staff member who was outsourced by his agency, and molested another.
The three of them had gone for a company dinner, and went to his house for a second round of drinks. Ji Hwan allegedly locked them up in a room and fell asleep.
One of the victims, A, had reportedly texted one of her friends in Seoul, writing, “I was drinking in talent Kang Ji Hwan’s house but now I’m trapped.”
Ji Hwan went into their room when they were asleep. A claimed to have witnessed Ji Hwan’s attempt to sexually assault the other woman and screamed, which made him stop. She also noticed that her own clothes were in disarray and realised that the same thing could have happened to her, and decided to make a police report.
Police had gone to Ji Hwan’s house because A’s friend had made a police report. According to Korean media outlets, the police had separated Ji Hwan from the women and arrested him.
The two women also made a police report and underwent tests for sexual assault. The result will be out in a week’s time.
When questioned by the police, Ji Hwan said, “I only remembered drinking. I don’t recall anything that happened after that. When I opened my eyes, I was in the room that A was sleeping in.”
He has cancelled all activities. He is currently acting in Joseon Survival. The drama will not be aired this week, and reruns will not be shown.
