5 Exciting Things You Missed At Shawn Mendes’ 2019 Concert In Singapore
The last time that Shawn Mendes performed in Singapore, it was to a crowd of over 5,000 loyal fans at The Star Theatre. A little more than a year later, the Grammy-nominated singer is back again at the little red dot. Apart from getting a tattoo at Haji Lane, the singer is also in town for the Singapore leg of his world tour. This time round, he performed at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, which holds a maximum of 12,000.
Touring in support of his self-titled album, the Canadian singer performed his most iconic hits like “Mercy” and “Stitches”, as well as newer crowd-favourites such as “Life of the Party” last night. When Shawn performed a medley of tracks from all his albums
Fans who had been waiting for the singer’s return to Singapore since his 2017 show were certainly in for a treat. Shawn launched into a special piano medley, bringing back nostalgic hits like “Because I Had You”, “A Little Too Much” and “Patience”, before pumping up the crowd with “When You’re Ready”.
When he gave a passionate speech about "Youth"
Shawn was halfway through delivering an acoustic performance of his track “Youth” when he stopped singing to give a rousing speech to the audience. He said, “When I talk about youth, I’m not talking about how young or old you are. I am talking about the feeling of freedom and happiness. Do you understand?” He proceeded to emphasise to his fans that they are the “ones who will change the world” and that everyone should do their part to make the world a better place.
When Shawn covered "Fix You"
We have to admit that our hearts flutter a little whenever Shawn sat down at the piano, and his rendition of Coldplay’s “Fix You” definitely took the cake as the most dreamy moment of the night. As he paid tribute to what he regards to be “one of [his] favourite songs”, the crowd joined in by waving wristbands that emitted blue light (given out to the audience before the concert) to the tune of this iconic ballad.
When he wowed the crowd with his guitar solos
While Shawn has always played the guitar as an accompaniment to his vocals, he certainly one-upped himself this time. He got the audience on a high, clapping their hands and stomping their feet to the rhythm as he performed “Ruin”—with an extended guitar solo section. Gotta admit, we were bowled over.
When he showed off his killer vocals
Throughout the concert, Shawn made sure to show off his vocal prowess by perfectly hitting all the high notes and runs in each of his songs. We particularly enjoyed his powerful, live takes on “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back”, “Nervous”, “Bad Reputation” and the final song of the evening, “Mercy”.
