So you came home with a newly-bought shirt that’s unexpectedly too big. Uh-oh. What do you do? Should you bin it? Hold that thought. Before you trash that top, here are a couple of ideas on how you can work it and make it worth your money.
Cinch it with a belt
The easiest and most common way of dealing with an oversized top is to wear a belt. In this way, you can still rock it without looking like an inflated balloon (and by that, we mean all air on the inside).
Cinch it permanently
Another way to make it smaller is to gather the excess cloth to the back and sew it. This is easier than sending it to the tailor’s where they have to cut the sides (which would cost more too).
Wear it as an outerwear
Oversized shirts make for great outerwear for that deliberate slouchy touch. Just wear it over a plain tee or tank top with a pair of jeans and you’re good to go.
Tie it around your waist
This trend was popular in the 1990s, but those into grunge look have adapted this look when sporting plaid tops. This jazzes up the outfit without making you look like you’re wearing too
Turn it into a dress shirt
Too long? Fret not, because you can always wear it as a dress! Just pull on a jacket and you’re ready to hit the streets.
