Today, Periscope screened Clueless to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Yes, it’s been two decades since the iconic fashion film first hit the big screen, can you believe it? But that doesn’t mean it’s outdated. In fact, Cher’s gems of wisdom are more relevant than ever. Here are six style tips we picked up from the movie.

1. Take care of your clothes, especially if it’s designer
Treat your clothes well. After all, you’ve spent good money on them. Always read the care instructions on the label. If it’s supposed to be hand-washed, why not spend five minutes washing the apparel instead of running the risk of it shrinking in the washing machine?

2. Trust the experts
If Calvin Klein says it’s a dress, it’s a dress. Don’t try to transform it into something else unless you have an impeccable fashion sense.

3. Create a system when it comes to organising your wardrobe
Cher has a software that allows her to mix and match her outfit with a click of a button. And how does she find those outfits? In Cher’s Guide To Whatever, she suggested arranging your clothes according to colours. That was probably how she found out that her white Fred Segal top was missing.

4. Don’t just wear accessories for the sake of wearing them
Your accessories need to match your outfit. If it doesn’t complement your outfit, forgo it. Yes, that includes a watch. After all, you can always check your phone for the time.

5. Have your own style
Don’t just copy your friends or what you see in magazines. Adaptation is totally fine, but remember to inject your signature style. Bear in mind that what looks amazing on others might not look good on you.

6. Finding a good pair of shoes is difficult
That pair of heels might look fab on the shelves, but that doesn’t mean they will feel fab on your feet. Some shoes take time getting used to, but if they’ve been giving you blisters after a few uses, it’s time to bin them.
