If Desigual’s latest Autumn/Winter’19 collection and trends can be summed up into one phrase it would be: Good. Vibes. Only.
The brand prides itself on its ability to be innovative and creative through its vibrant collections, especially after its rebranding efforts in June, a special event that we ourselves got to witness as the only Singaporean media present!
Have you ever attended a fashion event that started with a silent disco dance party by the beach? Neither have we until Desigual flew us down!
And as with all things Desigual, its rebranding efforts were, of course, unconventional and not like anything we’ve seen—firstly, with the permanent reversal of its logo.
The word Desigual itself means “unequal” or “different” in Spanish, so this unusual decision actually goes back to the essence of the brand.
Refreshing its logo was just the first step. The brand would also be changing the way the clothes are designed, ensuring that the garments will be more contemporary, diverse and sustainable.
And for Autumn/Winter’19, Desigual is choosing to focus on the past, the present and the future, and the energy that flows between them. It also celebrates the need to experiment, learn, feel and ultimately live in constant movement. This is then translated into a fun collection that is full of colour and unexpectedness.
Here are some of the key pieces and trends that we can’t wait to have when the collection drops.
Trend alert: Denim on Denim
Denim has been an integral part of Desigual’s DNA since 1984 and this capsule continues that legacy. Combining design inspirations from the past and the present, the collection features denim in every way you can possibly imagine—think new washes and fits like culottes, flares and super-wide legs in different colours and all-over-print. Trust us when we say this isn’t your average denim.
And this refresh doesn’t just apply to their jeans. Their trucker jacket continues to be a staple, and the brand infuses its rebellious spirit with DIY punk-inspired patches, mixed materials like denim and fleece as well as romantic floral beading and embroidery.
Trend alert: Colourful warm pieces
As expected for an Autumn/Winter collection, warm and cosy pieces dominate the season. Padded winter jackets, ponchos and knitted garments in all colours of the rainbow are some of the key pieces for this capsule collection—perfect for those who prefer a more colourful style for their winter outfits.
Trend alert: The new black
Desigual… creating a capsule collection in black? Did you read that right? Yes, you did, but it’s not what you think. Contrary to popular belief, black doesn’t have to mean the absence of colour. Desigual turned their black garments into universes filled with details, and played with design details such as transparencies, flocking, embroideries and tone-on-tone prints. The capsule will consist of dresses, trousers, T-shirts and sweaters with hidden design detail that will only reveal when they are worn.
Trend alert: Sneakers (because, of course)
For Autumn/Winter’19, comfort plays a big part in the collection—and this means an abundance of cool sneakers. The brand has worked to improve the quality of their shoe soles and infused them with the current trends to ensure their shoes are stylish as much as they are easy to wear. From sporty-inspired sneakers to embellishments such as beads, lace, metallic details and studs, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a pair of sneakers that won’t fit your style.
But if you’re not ready to trade in your heels for a pair of sneakers yet, the brand also has a small selection of heels and ankle boots in a myriad of materials such as denim, tartan, camo, wrinkled leather or suede.
Trend alert: Backpacks and handbags
If you’re looking to pair Desigual vibrant clothing pieces with accessories, look no further than the statement-making bags that Desigual will be producing. The star of the season will undoubtedly be the backpack. With almost 30% of the collection focused on them, Desigual had produced them in every iteration possible. From large to mini, printed to mono-colours, lettering to embroidery, different fabrications, raised details or aged-leather effects, an office-appropriate piece or just a fun weekend bag, there’s one for every woman.
And it’s not all just backpacks! The other 70% of the collection is dedicated to handbags, sling bags and totes with cute fastenings, zips and a thousand tiny touches that make their designs so innovative and fresh. And if you truly want to stand out from the crowd, keep an eye out for their heart and robot-shaped handbags!
