Growing up as a ‘90s kid, it was only inevitable that I would succumb to the global musical phenomenon known as the Spice Girls. As a six-year-old, it was my first brush with pop music, easily-branded feminism (aka girl power) and fashion.
While vocally, Ginger Spice was one of my favourites, I, like the rest of the world, was obsessed with Emma Bunton aka Baby Spice’s style. Her pigtails and mini dresses were iconic, so much so that today’s Gen Z kids that have adopted the ‘90s trends still emulate her when it comes to their dressing. She topped it off with the coolest accessories as well—knee-high socks, Buffalo boots and yes, a chunky BABY-G watch on her left wrist.
As a kid, I so desperately wanted that bit of arm candy adorning my wrists. But alas, my parents picked practicality over anything, and I was forced to wear a sensible hand-me-down from my sister.

But just like how Baby Spice eventually grew up and evolved with age, so has the brand. And while their chunky pastel watches (which you can still get to this day!) will always hold a special and nostalgic place in my heart, I’ve recently been alerted to their G-MS series. This collection features a line of sleek, new watches that feel like the refined, and more sophisticated older sister of the BGA190 series.
Dubbed the MSG-C100, the watch is made for women who want the sportiness of the BABY-G brand but with a more classic and design-driven look. In place of the chunky, oversized proportions of its predecessors is a sleek and slimmer design in rose gold or silver metal that wouldn’t look out of place with your work clothes. And if you need to head to the gym or the pool after, the watches are also shock-resistant and water-resistant.
The collection is now available at all CASIO G-Factory stores.
