As an Asian society, most (if not all) of us keep a predominantly shoes-off household. Which is great because, you know, personal hygiene. And this is all fine and dandy until it comes to the conundrum that is Chinese New Year visiting. You’re all decked out in your newest and brightest gear, but still expected to remove your shoes before you enter anyone’s household. And with some of us having a busy schedule of visiting up to five homes in a day, the last thing you want is to be stuck with is lacing and unlacing your shoes by the foot of the door. You can’t schlep off to someone’s home in a pair of slippers either—your elders taught you better than that.
So from ballet flats to mules, here’s nine pairs of shoes that are fancy enough to go visiting in, but still really convenient to remove.
