Let’s be honest: if you wore a great outfit but didn’t take a picture of it, did it actually happen? While finding a cool background to take the perfect OOTD might be tough in Singapore (especially since we spend most of our time indoors with little to no natural light), it’s not entirely impossible.
Enter JCube. Not only is the mall full of fun, Instagram-worthy spots to hang out at (we love a good ’90s-inspired arcade), there are also tons of affordable fashion boutiques for you to pick up great bargains from.
We spent a day there with style influencer Chloe Choo to gather all her tips and tricks on how she combines style and finding the right IG backdrops to make her pictures double-tap-worthy. Read on, apply them to your own Instagram photos and then watch the likes flow in. You’re welcome.

Location: The Rink
Style Tip: “Being stylish doesn’t always have to mean spending a lot of money. I love brands like iORA because you can go there to find great basics for date night. Whether you’re just having dinner or hanging out at the ice skating rink, you’ll be able to find versatile pieces for any kind of activity.”
OOTD Tip: “If the lighting is really bad, I try to use editing app Lightroom to adjust the lighting by tweaking the tone curves. Here’s an example of how a picture can look like before and after editing.”
The Rink is at #03-11.
Style Tip: “I love oversized and boyish pieces because they look relaxed. Not only are they extremely comfortable, but they also suit any kind of activity, from going to the gym to just chilling with your friends. Pieces with interesting details also tend to stand out. For example, I picked this skirt with shirt sleeves that gave off a cool, deconstructed vibe. It’s basically streetwear on a budget!”
OOTD Tip: “Make the most of any location, even something as banal as the gym! You could even sneak in a quick OOTD shot while waiting for your boyfriend to finish his workout!”
GYMMBOXX is at #03-04/06 and is open 24 hours.
Location: The Photo Booths
Style Tip: “The best thing about two-piece co-ords? You don’t have to waste time thinking about matching your clothes. Not only is the suit I’m wearing office-appropriate, the light cotton fabric ensures it’s suitable for the humid Singaporean weather too. “
OOTD Tip: “Who even needs to get ready for pictures anymore when a photo booth like this has great lighting and filters? I guarantee you’ll look good in these snaps without even having to try. This one Japanese photo booth even superimposes your head onto movie posters!”
The photo booths are on level 3.
Style Tip: “Mirrored shades are great because they can always double up as a mirror if you don’t have one on hand. The coloured sheen also adds a futuristic edge to any outfit.”
OOTD Tip: “If you want to add colour to your OOTD, arcade neon lights are great and really make the pictures on your grid pop. VSCO is also a great app to edit the colours further.”
Whimsy is at #02-11.
Location: iDarts Cube
Style Tip: “Try to mix different styles within your outfit to create an interesting look. I usually like layering boyish, oversized pieces with something feminine. Cuffed jeans are also a great way to toughen up a girly look!”
OOTD Tip: “Make use of the space you’re in and keep an eye out for interesting details that can play up your outfit. In this instance, the shipping container-inspired walls really play up the tomboyish vibes of my look.”
iDarts Cube is at #01-17A.
Location: J Stage
Style Tip: “Extra-long sleeves add a fashion edge to a classic denim jacket. Acid-washed denim is big for the current Spring/Summer ’19 season and it’s a really easy trend to incorporate into your wardrobe. Yellow also adds a pop of colour against the neutral tones of your look.”
OOTD Tip: “Be creative when it comes to interesting lighting opportunities. You don’t always need full-on natural sunlight to get a good picture. Sometimes, all you need is a shard of light to create an eye-catching image. If the lighting is really bad, I try to use editing app Lightroom to adjust the lighting by tweaking the tone curves.”
J Stage is on level 5.
