Can’t get enough of makeover shows on TV? Neither can we. A large part of their appeal is how they leave us with the sense that we too can radically revamp ourselves… if only we had some expert help.
If you’ve always wanted a makeover, try Fleek, an image and date coaching agency right here in Singapore that not only offers makeover sessions, but also tips on grooming, dressing and how to carry yourself on dates.
For a sense of what a makeover session with Fleek involves, scroll the galleries below to find out how it went for two ladies, Jessica and WeiWei.
Style goal: To adopt a dressier fashion style without drawing too much attention away from her hair, which she loves to change up with different colours every so often.
Jessica usually sports bold hair colour and keeps her outfits very simple (usually a t-shirt, shorts and loose fit outerwear combo).
Fleek’s Chief Branding Coach Sammi Chiang spent an hour on a makeover consultation with Jessica to find out more about her style preferences before deciding on the type of makeover suitable for her.
“I recommend that Jessica go for a personal shopping and grooming session with me because she already has a beautiful canvas — she just needs to learn what she can do with it. Her hair reflects her personality and is part of her personal style. Instead of drawing attention away from it, I suggested that she create outfits that work with her ever-changing hair colour,” said Sammi.
Sammi then took Jessica clothes shopping. Given Jessica’s warm skin tone, Sammi advised her to stay away from shades such as mustard yellow and royal blue as they can make her appear washed out.
Jessica shared that she has always wanted to give bold eye makeup a go but was afraid that the combination of bright eye makeup and bright hair would be too much. However, Sammi assured her that red-based eyeshadow would help to bring out her violet hair.
Before taking Jessica for a haircut, Sammi presented her with a selection of clothes that she could wear to look more presentable for client meetings.
Sammi then showed Jessica that she can rock glittery eye makeup and an overall sweet look with her new hairdo.
“Ash-toned hair colours suit Jessica really well. Also, all you need is a checkered jumpsuit like this one to elevate the look of a simple T-shirt, which is what she usually wears,” said Sammi.
And Jessica’s take on her makeover?
“I learnt that, contrary to popular belief, not all colours go with black. Also, getting materials and colours to match is a lot more tedious than it looks. This outfit that Sammi picked out for me is something very close to what I’d wear when I do put more effort into dressing up,” she said.
Style goal: To master the art of packing clothes for a summer holiday. She’s usually unsure of what to bring and tends to overpack, which means she has less space for a shopping haul.
To meet WeiWei’s goal, Sammi recommended that she go for a personal grooming session and a personal capsule session.
Sammi first gave WeiWei some tips on the different types of eye makeup and hairdos that would work from day to night on holiday.
“Bright eye makeup and a vacation go together. Weiwei has very big eyes so they don’t really need much enhancement. Given this, she can keep the makeup light and simple during the day, and at night, she can just darken it with some eyeshadow. If she doesn’t want to add on more eyeshadow, she can also use a darker lipstick to jazz up the look,” said Sammi.
Hate having to bring lots of outfits just so you don’t repeat the same #OOTD?
“A lot of people have the misconception that you should pack as many dresses as you can but I think the versatility of each piece is more important! Always pack a pair of shorts, a few basic tops and a pair of pants to switch things up. This way, you can create many outfits with just five pieces of clothing!” said Sammi.
Sammi’s tip for holiday dresses: you don’t actually have to bring many day dresses when you go on holiday. Just wear the same one with different outerwear or accessories to switch things up.
If you’re going for a beach vacay or just a place that’s sunny, you can’t go wrong with a denim skirt and T-shirt combo. For a stylish twist, tie a knot instead of tucking in the tee.
“Don’t be afraid to pack hair accessories! They are lightweight and won’t take up a lot of space in your luggage though they allow you to carry off different looks,” said Sammi.
Another tropical-friendly combo that’s both chic and comfy? A yellow top and flowy floral pants.
“This type of dressy top is great for mixing and matching. Even if you feel a bit lazier on some days, it’ll still help you look like you put in some effort,” said Sammi.
Sammi also put together this light-coloured ensemble that’s perfect for a day out in the sun. The best part? It includes some accessories from the previous get-up.
“This pair of shoes was also used for the previous look. When packing for a holiday, try to think of shoes that can match more than one outfit,” said Sammi.
“I got excited when I saw the different looks put together using the few pieces of clothing! Sammi did a brilliant job curating the looks,” said WeiWei.
