2019 is the Year of the Pig, and Longchamp has renewed its collaboration with Tao Liang, aka Mr. Bags, to create a fun and delightful limited edition collection of bags and small leather goods featuring the animal. The pig in the Chinese zodiac represents luck, overall good fortune, wealth, honesty, sincere, giving, sociable person with a great sense of humour and understanding.
One of China’s most influential fashion bloggers, Mr. Bags revisited Longchamp’s iconic Le Pliage Cuir top handle bag in black lambskin leather and pink metis leather as the backdrop on which Mr. Bags conjures a pig in a series of bold white lines: on the front, a curly tail; on the back, a pair of pointed ears and two dots for eyes; and – hidden under the familiar flap, so only the bag’s owner knows it’s there – a playful fart!
The must-have item from this adorable collection is the transparent PVC tote with a pink, snout-shaped coin purse ($590). Mr. Bags was inspired by one of Longchamp Creative Director Sophie Delafontaine’s 1998 reinterpretations of the House icon: Le Pliage Aquarium, which was pictured with a fish swimming around inside it.
The Mr. Bags x Longchamp limited edition collection will be available at all Longchamp boutiques in Singapore from January 7, 2019, and ranges from $390 to $1,500.
